On the Plains of Manassas

The 42nd Virginia was asked to provide a color guard for the United Daughters of the Confederacy's annual commemoration of the Southern victory at the Battle of First Manassas on July 21, 1863. This year's celebration, which was hosted by the District of Columbia Division, was held on July 19 at Manassas National Battlefield Park.

The color guard Field commander Larry Ward viewed the proceedings from his wheelchair, accompanied by Marianne Gray and Ken Lawson. Larry was recovering from a broken leg suffered on the way to a Confederate Memorial Day ceremony in May.
