Each year the 42nd Virginia Infantry Regiment provides a color guard for the District of Columbia Division's annual commemoration of the birth of Confederate General Robert Edward Lee. Senator Strom Thurmond (R-SC), the scheduled speaker for this year's event, was unable to attend because of the impeachment trial.
